Don’t Be Alone With JIA

Find your nearest local support group/s from our network of friendly community groups across England and Wales.

The CCAA local groups are a network of friendly groups run by volunteer parent reps. In the groups we share experiences, offer mutual support online and in person and arrange regular meet ups for the whole family in your local area.

We welcome children with JIA and all other rheumatological conditions, along with their families. If your child would like to meet other children living with the same condition and/or you would like to meet other parents going through the same issues then you’ve come to the right place!

As a family that has a child with JIA, we are sure you recognise the power and value of peer support whether that be parent to parent, young person to young person or sibling to sibling. We work closely with rheumatology centres, health professionals and their teams, other charities and researchers to ensure we support your family and signpost you to the best and most appropriate support and resources for your needs.

Becoming a Local Area Rep

CCAA are always looking to expand the number of local groups we have around England and Wales to increase the regional support available for families. If you have been on your JIA journey a while and would be interested in finding out more about becoming a local area parent rep, please contact our Local Area Network Coordinator, Emily Earle emily@ccaa.org.uk or complete the online form below.

NB: We carry out DBS checks and reference checks on all our parent rep volunteers. We will also ask that you speak with someone in your paediatric rheumatology team to refer you to us as part of the process. Training will be offered and all related expenses would be covered by CCAA.

Rules of Local Area Group Reps

  • CCAA does not offer any medical advice – parents should always seek the advice of a physician or other qualified health provider with any questions they have regarding any medical condition.
  • Any medical/medication/therapy advice should come directly from your paediatric rheumatology team. Any families with concerns about their paediatric rheumatology care should make contact directly with a member of their paediatric rheumatology team.
  • Please maintain confidentiality and do not discuss beyond the group anything that a parent may post. We all come to these groups for mutual support and understanding and we must respect each other’s privacy too.
  • Any feedback about a hospital team or service needs to go directly to the hospital or team themselves either via your normal contact method or via the PALS service please – if they don’t know when things go wrong, they can’t address it to make improvements.
  • CCAA Facebook Groups were founded by parent volunteers. When attending any get togethers arranged by CCAA volunteers, children remain the responsibility of their parents/carers at all times and must always be appropriately supervised.
  • Please note that all opinions/comments given on any CCAA Facebook groups, or in discussions at any CCAA get togethers, or on the telephone with a CCAA rep, are those of the person giving them and not those of a medical professional.
  • CCAA Facebook groups must be used with respect for others and with understanding that any comments posted are private and not to be shared outside the groups. We do not allow ‘naming and shaming’ of health professionals, abusive comments, advertising or spam etc. We reserve the right to delete any comments that contravene these rules.
