Our Patrons

We are very fortunate to have some truly inspiring people as our Patrons. Each of our Patrons has given support to our organisation through the years and for that we are truly grateful.

Professor Patricia Woo CBE

Emeritus Professor of Paediatric Rheumatology at UCL, and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at GOSH & UCLH

Professor Woo specialises in Rheumatological problems (inflammatory or non-inflammatory) in children, adolescents and young adults. She established the Tertiary referral service for children at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital, and the adolescent and young adult referral service at University College Hospital in 1995. Her Dept. research included clinical and basic research on childhood arthritis, and some of the research work has since been translated into clinical trials leading to the drugs being licenced for use in the NHS.

Dr Nathan Hassan | Health Professional

Dr Nathan Hasson

Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Rheumatologist

Dr. Nathan Hasson is a Consultant in General Paediatrics and a Consultant in Paediatric Rheumatology. He worked as a Consultant in General Paediatrics at Ealing Hospital, before moving to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in Paediatric Rheumatology www.drhasson.co.uk

Dr. Hasson manages general paediatric conditions and in addition all aspects of paediatric rheumatology, in particular Benign Joint Hypermobility Syndrome and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA).

Prof Tauny Southwood

Professor Taunton Southwood

Professor of Paediatric Rheumatology at University of Birmingham

Professor Southwood established the tertiary referral service for children with arthritis and rheumatic diseases at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in 1989.  He has special research interests in assessing the benefits and risks of new anti-cytokine treatments for juvenile idiopathic arthritis, with over 120 research publications. He has trained many of the senior paediatric rheumatologists in centres throughout the UK, Europe and beyond and has edited 2 textbooks in Arthritis in Children and Adolescents.

Qualifications – B.M., B.S., F.R.C.A.P., F.R.D.P., F.R.E.C.P.C.H.

Dr Nick Wilkinson

Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Rheumatologist

Dr Wilkinson is heavily involved in providing support for families coping with the effects of Juvenile Arthritis. He is an executive member of the British Society of Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology (BSPAR), where he set up the national parents’ group and he continues to be a to provide children and families with the support they need. Nick gives his time to attend our annual weekends to help us deliver informative sessions to parents who have children with Arthritis. His knowledge and experience has been invaluable to the families. He gets stuck in with the weekend activities too, so we look forward to welcoming him again this year for some more abseiling and zipwiring fun!

Caroline Cox - CCAA Committee Member

Founder, Caroline Cox

At the age of four, Caroline’s youngest daughter Vicky, developed a severe form of the condition so she knows only too well the impact that JIA can have on a family. Over the years Caroline’s commitment to the charity and its’ work has been unstinting, representing CCAA at national and international conferences and providing support to thousands of families over the years. Caroline retired in 2016 as CCAA General Secretary but continues to be involved in the family support weekends and the work of the charity as a patron.
